The Prayer of Disillusioner: How to get what you want out of life?

If it seems to you that the days go by one by one, that there is no improvement in life, you can try this method. It worked for me personally (and quite well). You just have to ask yourself a question every time before you go to sleep:

What stupid things I keep doing that slow my life down?

Your life tends to be different from the life you would like to have. Why does this happen?

Right off the bat, we’ll point out illness, accidents, old age, and death. It happens to everyone. There are things we cannot control. Terrible tragedies happen in our lives, and we are not always to blame. At the same time, most of our troubles are really our own fault. If we don’t acknowledge this fact, there is no way to fix the situation in our lives.

One of the reasons people don’t get what they want is because they don’t know what they want.

Many of us really don’t bother to answer the question: “What do I want out of life? What should be my ideal life?”. We just live in “one day-today” scheme, we try to forecast for a month, a year, five years ahead, forgetting that we have a whole life ahead of us, and that’s decades and it’s better to have a precise plan.

I’m not talking about goals like buying a car, an apartment, getting married, having a baby. Agree that these things can be accomplished in a few years. And here you are thirty years old, you’ve bought everything, your parents, you put a ring on your finger, but there are still 50-60 years of life ahead of you (it’s a very long time) and what to do next, where to live – we don’t know.

Besides, these are the things that 99% of the people on earth want. It’s not even your own personal wish. In this respect you are not different from a Hindu, a Mexican or an Icelander. Everyone wants an iPhone, a Mercedes, a house with a garden, and a “fat” bank account.

Now think: Can these purely utilitarian items be a plan for life, or is it just a list of must-have purchases?

Imagine that you are a person to whom you wish all the best in life. You are like an adult who takes care of himself as a child, and your job is to make sure that this child has everything good in his life. You’re going to wish your kid an last Iphone or Tesla stocks on the account, seriously?

To begin with, you have to finally figure out what will be good for you. To do this, you have to finally determine what is good for you and what is definitely bad. And what is bad and what is good is not here and now, but for the rest of your life. You may not want to admit it, but there are bad and good things in life, bad and good habits, real and unreal dreams.

Recognize that you won’t get everything all at once. Recognize that in order to live a good life, you have to work hard.

That’s the way life works. In order to achieve any goal, you have to work, limit yourself in some way. In other words:

Make a sacrifice today to win the prize tomorrow.

If you determine what’s good for you, and you work toward it, you’ll get it for sure. It’s a strange joke, but it’s true. There’s no magic here. Simple dialectic, quantitative changes will always translate into qualitative changes.

Understand that it is impossible to succeed by happenstance. It sounds terribly trivial, but happiness and success can only be earned.

That’s why if you don’t have a purpose in life, if you don’t define what’s good for you, if you don’t sacrifice pleasure for more, you’re guaranteed to be miserable. And there are a lot of people like that on the planet. A lot of people are just living their lives aimlessly (“I’ve eaten and it’s good”).

How to get what you want out of life? You must learn to plan: for a day, a week, a month, a year. You must control your desires: long-term goals must be a priority. You must strive to restructure your life so that the achievement of your goals becomes as possible. That is, you must not do what takes you away from the goal. This is the only way to prove that you really want to succeed.

Every night you must ask yourself:

  • What am I doing wrong?
  • What can I do to make things better?
  • What can I do to make my life enjoyable?

Remember: no one is interested in your personal success more than you. So it is only your task (whether you like it or not). If you want to achieve your goals, to become successful, then you need to start acting: even a little, but regularly. Any step to a “bright future” is better than laziness and inaction.
